This work is an example of what  might be called ‘visual alchemy.’ It begins with (my) photography: capturing images of deteriorating surfaces like oxidized metal and chipped paint, various aspects of the landscape, and objects of interest (grimy factory windows, walls showing the effects of time, cracked cement, et. al.) Since the photographs are digital, the works are created on a virtual canvas, by arranging selected images in relationship to one another (side by side, overlapping, on top, underneath). The images blend into one another, new impressions of shape and color organically emerge as a result of the process, and abstractions, based on the real world, are born. The viewer is invited to alter habitual perception by deciphering the parts or by simply absorbing the new whole.

Digital abstract works can be printed on archival paper at different sizes. Please contact me with any questions about the work below.
